Notes for William I "Tete d'Etoupe" , Duke of Aquitaine
General Note
|
Also shown as William III. Number system for the line of William/Guillaume is confusing - ranging
from I through X (1-10) with up to 4 varying numbers for each person, depending on the numbering
system, I guess. I have renumbered them all using my own system, starting with William the
son of Ebles. The large number of Williams has probably confused things here also as some sources
have them quite mixed up. And until a primary source is consulted, the listing of "Williams"
between William I, the son of Ebles and Eleonore that marries Henry Plantagenet may even be
incorrect here. (IJL Mar-2001)
Count of Auvergne, Velay, Limousin. Towhead of Poitou.
dit Tete d'Etoupe, Ct of Poitou, Auvergne and Limoges, Duke of Aquitaine. With him the numbering
confusion begins; he was the first Duke William of Aquitaine of his family, but there had been
two Duke Williams of the house of Autun; thus the ordinal confusion. Therefore Guillaume III
de Poitou, Guillaume I d'Aquiatine.
