Notes for Leo VI "Filosofos" , Emperor of Byzantine Empire
General Note
|
Since Leo's mother was Eudocia, who was both Michael III's mistress and Basil I's wife, rumor
had it that Leo may have been Michael's son rather than Basils. Perhap even his mother did
not know.
Leo married 4 wifes. The first two had no son. His fourth wife, Zoe, produced
the wanted son who could inherit the rule of Byzantium. He was called Leo the Wise on account
of his organization and law. He loved books and learning also.
