The Church of the Reverend Pontiff Greg Bard
"The ultimate concern is to
preserve and further intellectual
values."

Spirituality is an individually unique value.
Other people aren't supposed to tell you what to
do with your spirituality. So I have taken my
spirituality into my own hands and formed my own
religion with one member.
The Church of Greg Bard is wholly founded by and
comprised of Greg Bard, who by authority of
education and experience is at least as
enlightened to the answers of metaphysical
questions as any other human being. All people are
equal in our rational
capacity. I believe we are equal in our
spiritual capacity as well.
There are some questions for which we cannot get
any answers, and yet our move forward in life
requires us to operate on some kind of answer. We
face situations which hinge on the answer we give
to 'How did I come to be?', 'Why do I exist?',
and 'What will become of me?', etcetera.
Sometimes we struggle to get the answer. That's
where organized religions come into the picture.
They take advantage of our spiritual needs.

Organized religion is a bane on society. They
want you to turn off the thinking process and
think the way they think. That is simply
unacceptable. Each of us has a duty to think for
himself or herself.
I don't encourage people to try to become a member
of this or any other church. This Church has one
member: Greg Bard. I am a professor and
holder of spiritual
beliefs like everyone else, but also formally
a minister, Reverend and the Pontiff of this Church. Believe whatever
church you want, just don't give any organized
religion any money. Take charge of your own
spirituality by forming your own religion.
I am guided by conscience to oppose all organized
religions of more than one person. Organizations
that propagate a set of beliefs about answers to
questions to which we can't know the answer are
taking unfair advantage of the spiritual needs of
their members.
Organizing an entity whose aim is fundamentalism,
anti-pluralism, or conformity of spiritual values
is immoral. Encouraging people not to question any
particular subset of their own set of beliefs is
immoral.

As Pontiff I am responsible for the assignment of
members of the Set of
Beliefs of the Church of Greg Bard. I have a
duty to proscribe for myself a particular manner
of acting, or way of life, that is moral. I have
developed a system of thought that is convenient
for understanding the universe and comprehensive
in addressing ethical questions. However,
fundamentalism is immoral, so I reveal this system
primarily to lead by example. The task of
assigning members of the Set of Beliefs is itself
unassignable. Only onself has the right and the
duty to assign members to one's own set of
beliefs. My designation as Pontiff of my own
religion is therefore appropriate.
Some of the members
of the Set of Beliefs are claims of fact about the
actual historial universe, others of which serve
as ethical axioms, and some others which can be
described as observations.
As Pontiff I have a duty to address the
fundamental and ultimate questions having to do
with deep and imponderable existential,
teleological, and cosmological questions. I have
addressed these in a series of foundational statements
which are the most significant members of the Set
of Beliefs.
I have determined that there are only a few legitimate ways to add to the Set of Beliefs.

The Church provides services in the
community by providing moral leadership
in general. I will consult with you on your legal
and political rights concerning your
actions required by your spiritual
values.
I also provide leadership in ceremonies as deemed
appropriate by Reverend Greg Bard. This includes
nontheist, nontraditional, and nondenominational
marriages, civil unions, and handfasting. Contact me
for details.

As Pontiff, I may designate persons as having
titular citizenship in the Church of Greg Bard. I
have named all of the following persons Saints.

The Church recognizes the organizational efforts
of secular organizations as a path toward
furthering good values. The following
organizations are in Communion with the Church
of Greg Bard.
